Marches Real Food and Farming Convergence

Join us to build a resilient and regenerative food future

across the Marches.

After a successful first year in 2023, we’re back with a new format for 2024!

The Marches Real Food and Farming Convergence 2024 will be an even more interactive space to foster collaboration and build community. We will be gathering on 4-5th October at Babbinswood Farm near Oswestry to reimagine our local food future and build the partnerships that will make it a reality.

Book your place here to explore agroecology, regenerative farming, building strong local supply chains, policy change and food equity.

Come for the day or camp for the weekend, you’ll be sure of stimulating discussion in a beautiful environment, with local food and musicians to bring us together. The Convergence is designed to connect you with others working on the ideas that will shift us towards amore resilient food future and will finish with a People’s Assembly forming the basis of collaborative action into 2025.

Our key themes are:

  • Policy and innovation for regeneration: Hear from people working nationally and regionally about the key issues shaping our local food and farming future. From the latest government plans to the future of horticulture, the Local Food Partnership project and proposed Universal Basic Income for Farmers.

  • We will be joined by people from Landworkers’ Alliance, Sustainable Farming Trust, Social Farms & Gardens and Sustain. We will have snap shots from all the Marches Food Partnerships on the most exciting initiatives in their areas.

  • Dive deep into agroecology and farming with topics from soil biology to mob grazing. Hear from farmers and researchers and get an insight into the Roots to Regeneration programme. Find out more about permaculture, forest gardens and food forests, biodynamics and growing perennial vegetables. Local trainers and land managers will share their insight and experiences.

  • Rethink supply chains for regenerative produce: Find out about routes to market with Oooby, Better Food Traders and Forum for the Future. Join the conversation with Bwyd Powys about their plans for a Good Food Loop for the Marches. Explore innovations in ownerships for food and farming, how to setup a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) venture and how machinery rings work.

  • How can we increase access to healthy, nutritious food and build the local food economy? Have your say in current initiatives on reaching communities, engaging with schools and explore how tourism, farming, nature and food can come together.

  • Explore food quality through taste testing and see how a Brix refractometer works.

Join our People’s Assembly style Food Conversation and launch of our ‘huddles’ for women farmers and another on Listening to the Land. Enjoy a mix of panel presentations, open forum discussions and walk/talks. We will have a rich cultural offering this year, with local musicians and artists. There will be performances, singing workshops, and an open mic with comedy and poetry offerings already assured. And there will of course be lovely local food supplied by local caterers during the day and a feast from OsNosh on Friday night.
