Why we Signed a letter to Downing Street

The pressure if building on Government to take Food Resilience Seriously.

FoodRise launched an open letter which was signed by over 180 food experts to highlight the lack of government action on food resilience planning. Shropshire Good Food was on the list, along with many of our colleagues within the Sustainable Food Places network, academic researchers who we work alongside, as well as industry professionals and those working in National Security.

The message was clear: Food security is National Security and investment is needed to ensure that the UK can feed itself in crisis. This takes strategic planning and coordination from the Centre and investment in farming. The current line being taken on domestic stockpilling is beyond what most households can afford, and it obviously falls short of the systemic challenges of climate change and supply chain disruption due to El Nino, was and Geopolitical instability.
