Dorrington Community Garden is a communal green space just south of Shrewsbury, where the whole community can
sow, grow and harvest together.
A dedicated group of volunteers have created a welcoming and friendly garden for the enjoyment of local residents.
Their aim is to develop the space to enhance health and wellbeing of all who visit, and to demonstrate and promote sustainable practices and biodiversity within the community.
So whether just to look around and relax, pop along with any spare garden tools or plants, or to get your hands dirty with some weeding and building, join the group every Thursday 10am-12pm, or on the first Saturday of the month at 2pm.
Dorrington Community Garden is situated at the back of Dorrington Playing Field, with parking nearby at the Village Hall, The Maitlands, Dorrington, Shrewsbury SY5 7LD
How the SGFP hope to help
Dorrington Community Garden would like to develop their existing garden space by creating a sheltered area which can be used as the ‘hub’. They aim to build a shelter that will be a space to work in inclement weather, a place to hold fun events and activities, and display information about the biodiversity and community value of the garden. They hope to improve the pathway leading to the shelter, to make the space more accessible to all.
Oh, and a sloping roof to catch rainwater is also part of the plan!
The Shropshire Good Food Partnership want to help with some funding, and also recruitment of local experts, volunteers and maybe donors, who can help this fabulous group source materials and build their shelter before the weather turns.
